"Haven't Voted" Color Scheme needs to be strengthened #157

In doing user walk thru of Lightnet recently it is clear to me that the color scheme selected for the Voting Arrows in Item Menus when the User has not voted on an Item (or is not logged in) is not visible enough.

We need to pick stronger color. It should be color coordinated with the "Have Voted" color. Both could be changed together.

Can you suggest what this "haven't voted" scheme looks like? I don't understand what you are proposing nor the problem it solves. That we change the color? To what?

The existing scheme is designed to create large contrast between the votes and no votes state. Why do you want to lower that contrast?

I've had multiple comments that the 'haven't voted on this item" Votes display is too low visibility - doesn't make Votes and Voting salient enough.

You mean they can't see them? Or they're blaming their lack of voting on not being able to tell they weren't voted on?

So we paint them another color. What color do you propose? Why will that be better?

What is the underlying issue you are trying to solve? People aren't voting? Or people are saying they can't tell if something has been voted on or not?

Actually neither exactly, but sort of both: people are telling me that while they can SEE the votes, the salience is just too low - Votes and Voting don't make a significant impression to remind people to Vote.

I do think the strong visual distinction between "I've Voted' and "I've not voted" is a good thing.

Perhaps just making the Gray color used for the "Haven't Voted" state significantly darker would do the job......

playing with the CSS rgb(120,120,120) looks about right..... for both the number and the triangles

playing a little more with the CSS ... I'd suggest:

For the Number: rgb(135,135,135)

for the triangles: rgb(128,128,128)
