As at version 2.0 the NZRIS data specification requires Local Project ID for projects. However, if Project IDs are to be used across the system a common identifier system would need to be adopted, such as the Research Activity Identifier (RAiD). This could be added to the NZRIS specification by:
creating a new optional sub-entity on the Project entity called “Sector Project Identifier” with elements named “Project ID Type” (linking to the codeset described next) and “Project ID” (to align with Sector Person Identifier for the Person entity), and
creating a new codeset titled “Project Identifier Type” which would include identifier types such as RAiD, note that more work would need to be done to see which other identifiers (if any) need to be added to this list.
This issue is to consider whether this change is valuable, and if there are any negative implications.
