In the CMS, one cannot save edits to top-level leads—that is, leads numbered 1 (1a, 1b, in a first couplet)—because after pressing Save on the Change Lead screen, a red "Please correct the error below" validation error message appears, and the field for Parent is outlined in red with "This field is required." There is no parent for top-level leads, as they belong to a first couplet. There are many first couplets around the D. Key (one on the very first page, plus one for each Group, family, genus, etc.).
