Past pandemics throughout the world were for the most part handled differently. The world survived many different global pandemics throughout the past centuries but how were they viewed by the world as a whole? This project seeks to visualize past pandemics with maps and digitize old documents to compare and contrast how the world in different time periods handled its pandemic.
How the site may look:
Home: Changing world map that may switch between any of the labeled past pandemics and show their global reach. Each map could link to a different page dedicated to the pandemic of the map clicked on.
Numbers page: This page would have a continually updated information about the current pandemic and what the current global death toll is. Along side this, we could show different death tolls from different pandemics.
Digitized Writings of the past: in another section i would seek to analyzed past and maybe even current documentation of the pandemic and ones of the past. This could answer questions like "How were pandemics received and handled in the past".
Visualizing the pandemics could be a relevant and interesting way to approach something that is happening right now and historically significant.
