So, in class today I was trying to figure out how to deal with converting Rich Text Format to plain text using Mac's TextEdit. Naturally, I found the solution 5 minutes after class was over. So here it is, and it's pretty easy. If your file is coming in with a lot of formatting, what you need to do in TextEdit is:

Go to the Format menu
Choose "Make Plain Text"
