Really old TSS handler changes #16

I can't even remember what I'd done in these changes, so please enjoy the ancient commit logs...your guess is as good as mine. Everything seems to work okay still.

Wait, so... why should I merge this? Because everything seems to still work after this? I'll do it - under the assumption that you need this to be here for stuff you're working on but something slightly more descriptive would be nice next time :)

I am so sorry about how horrible this one is; I will not make any such awful PRs in the future. I just needed to get my branch and changes synced with the master branch so that when I push new things (like the Maven changes), it'll be actually possible to see what I did.
