"Sort by" ability missing from "Favorites" tab #10190

Description

Folde UI miss "Sort by" icon when view under "Favorites" tab when viewing files under the "Favorites" tab, the UI is missing the "Sort by" icon this has been an issued for quite a while I tested this on multiple devices

Steps to reproduce

  1. set some folders as a Favorites folder
  2. navigate the "Favorites" tab on the left side
  3. you should now notice that the UI is missing the "Sort by" icon under the Favorites tabs
  4. furthermore, even if you navigate into any folder under favorite the "Sort by" icon is still missing the
  5. the only way of bringing back "Sort by" icon is to navigate to "All Files"

Expected behaviour

When in any folder view, the UI should have the "sort by" icon

which you can use to sort your files

Actual behaviour

the "Sort by" icon is missing in any folder under the Favorites tab

Can you reproduce this problem on https://try.nextcloud.com?

Environment data

Android version Device model: tested this on multiple phones xiaomi mi 11 lite 5g android 11, stock miui 13 asus zenfone 3 android 9, custom lineage os

Nextcloud app version: 3.20.1 Nextcloud server version: my server 23.0.4 and try.nextcloud which I presume to be also 23.0.4 and this issue has existed for a long while, spanning multiple versions of client and server

I believe this is an issue on the Android client

This is not a bug, the functionality to sort is not available for Favorites for now.

note, just trying to provide feedback, sorry in advance if I sound underappreciative or entitled

even though I think I understand the reason why favorites is not the same as all file, and thus this is considered not a bug I think it's feels buggy sorting is not available contents of the favorited folders (not the favorite tab itself, but the contents of the folders)

reason being currently, when you access a favorited folder via favorites tab, then press the "back" button, the App will navigate to the folders parent directory instad back to the favorites tab. in essence, folders in the favorites tab act more like "folder navigation shortcuts" for "All Files" as opposed to some special folder structure

and since in my mind, "favorited folder" = "shortcuts for all files", than it not having sorting is bug

adding to this mindset is that, I belive there's no way to get "back" to the favorite tab once you enter the folder, you can only get "to" it by the side panel icon), favorited folder feels like a one way shortcut

as it stands, users will have to choose if they want to navigate through the folder structure, or use the favorites tab skiping the navigation but losing sorting functionality. in my opinion this maks favorites tab to be not a lot of use, and clunky to use

hope this issue get "Enhanced" in the future
