Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.

I'm using a "de-googled" android phone and I'm using Nextcloud as a open-source and independent option for "like-google" and "like-apple" services. In the android app, under notification I got an error message "Push notifications are disabled because they need Google Play Services".

Describe the solution you'd like

I would like to have a more free app that can work out his push notification without needing Google Play Services help. In more recent years many many applications started to develop their independent push services, so I hope it is "easy" to implement it.

Thank you.

(Easy step to reproduce the "problem": open Nextcloud android app with a phone without play services or MicroG and open "notification" tab).

There seems to be a separate app that can do this: https://github.com/Andrewerr/NextcloudServices Haven't tested it though.

Thank you, it would amazing if they will be integrated in the app... Because you can get push notification, but if you click it, they will open the browser instead of the Nextcloud app in the Notification section. Thank you anyway, I will use that app at the moment

Sound like a case for UnifiedPush. https://wiki.postmarketos.org/wiki/UnifiedPush https://unifiedpush.org/

@kolAflash yes, thank you, I was not suggesting a solution (I'm "new" to FOSS android), but instead asking to find a better way to send notification. If UnifiedPush is the best option, I hope they will implement it, if something else is the best option, I hope they will implement whatever will work without Google Play Services.

Thank you for the other tickets, I think this is a big problem for many users and I hope that one developer will have enough time to dig into and solve this case!
