Auto upload pauses after about 5-6 image files #12658

⚠️ Before posting ⚠️

Steps to reproduce

  1. Disable network access.
  2. Enable auto upload for camera folder.
  3. Make some photos.
  4. Enable network access. I use WLAN.

Expected behaviour

Nextcloud app uploads all newly made images instantly.

Actual behaviour

Nextcloud app uploads about 5-6 images and then waits. Even if starting outstanding uploads manually.

As a work-around I found that I can force-terminate the app and start it again. Then when I start uploading manually again it uploads again 5-6 images.

If just leaving it, after the initial upload of 5-6 images nothing happens. In the uploads view I see that uploads are outstanding with message "app has been terminated".

Additional information

Saw the log requirement after doing the work-around. Currently no images to upload. Can aim to do the adb logcat stuff next time. But to me it appears the pausing may even be intended behavior for always on network devices. However my phone is usually in flight mode and without WLAN access. I specifically enable network access when I like to have it do the uploads. But then I like it to upload all files in one go instead of waiting around like in background mode auto upload.

App is set to unrestricted regarding battery use.

Battery is above 80% anyway.

Android App Pauses/Stops Uploading (manual upload)

greenorca commented 3 months ago

Same issue here - as described above. It has been going on for for years for me and my partner. We are traveling a lot, hence take lots of photos while being offline. And to save energy, we only use auto upload while charging and while on WiFi. So every week or so, we need to auto-upload hundreds of photos while recharging the phones. And then, it is rather hard to stay on the phone and restart the app and the auto-upload dozens of times. I'm just thinking how to design some unit tests to simulates this...

I have the same problem. A certain amount of pictures are synchronized and you never know when the app will continue working. The sync times are completely random. The problem has been around for years.

The current Nextcloud App seems to have a Pause/Restart button in the Upload Activity which give the user at least the opportunity to trigger a restart of the upload queue. I'm very happy about this!

The button does nothing in my actual case. It's not syncing the pictures from the last 3 days.
