Expected behaviour

Icon should be clearly distinguishable from other applications to avoid confusion and enable quick access.

(new all synced - recognizable logo)

(possible use of current "no account" icon as "not syncing" to keep visual consistency)

maybe I am biased by the icons found in mainly monochrome icon themes like Breeze but isn't the Nextcloud tray icons too colorful ?

@mgallien Sorry, I tried thinking about how to improve the current "all synced" tray icon to make it more obvious when you take a quick look at it, because I initially cofused it with the verry similar "Skype" icon. I didn't want to start a discussion about the whole color sceme that is currently used. (I thought the Nextcloud Logo would be fitting as an "all synced" icon, because it has the same color as the "syncing" icon)

With that, I mean that I think the visual difference would still be enough, although you could also invert the syncing colors to make it even more differentiatable

Sorry for my confusion. I agree that what you propose is an improvement. if @jancborchardt agree, I would be happy to improve that. What are the people we should involve when modifying this kind of things ?

That sounds like it would be a good thing to do.

I am a mac user and it is true that this sometimes confuses with other icons.

But the proposal that the OP comments on does not seem correct to me.

A better idea seems to me an icon like Dropbox uses that would be dropbox icon + small icon (nextcloud logo (all synchronized), nextcloud logo with update symbol (in progress)) ...

I think you can use the tree circles NextCloud icon for the system tray and have the status overlay at the big central circle.
