Before mass deletion: ask if unshare/unsync #5034

have an unexperienced user
have them synced entire cloud
they see that they do not need a shared folder/groupfolder as they want to free up disk space
they delete it/or all content from within --> Client shall detect this and offer instead to unsync (means it is removed locally only) or unshare (leave the share, not possible on groupfolders)

How has this not been implemented yet? Without this feature, the Nextcloud client is completely useless as a backup tool, since if an adversary were to compromise the server they'd be able to not only delete the backup on the server, but also the local, original version.

It is indeed not a backup tool but a 2-way Sync tool. Please read about the differences yourself!

A tool can have multiple purposes and I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants to backup her photos to the cloud.

Especially since the Android App supports Auto Upload without deleting the original photo when deleted in the cloud
