⚠️ This issue respects the following points: ⚠️

Bug description

We have an issue using an iPad with Nextcloud, which is once we open any PDF files from Nextcloud or from an email application using an iPad and editing PDF files using Adobe Acrobat Pro, there will be an issue with synchronization once the file is uploaded to Nextcloud either it will not take the edit at all and sometimes the edit will not be taken completely, which means if we have edited 10 pages the reflection on Nextcloud would be only in 4 or maybe 6 pages.

Note that this issue is not continuous which means it happens very often and it it really slowing down our workflow . Your support is much appreciated

Hey Nextcloud-Team,

Thanks a lot for this great piece of software. I just wanted to confirm that me and a collegue are expierencing similar issues. We both use an iPad with iOS 16 and the app PDF Viewer to annotate long documents (10-100 pages). The annotation sessions are not continous, so we might work at a document over several days / weeks.

The app saves the document when we close it. One of the following things can happen:

  1. The document syncs normally
  2. The document cannot be saved at all and all changes since the last save are gone
  3. The nextcloud app has lost the login session (mostly if document was open for several days) and therefore nothing can be saved

My current workflow is to save PDFs locally on my iPad until I finished the annotations. When I'm done I copy them over to Nextcloud. If they are saved correctly, I can delete the local file.

Kind regards Alex

Mentioned colleague here; adding to @Sn0wfreezeDev's comment (and using the same PDF Viewer), the affected software versions are:

I can confirm that the probability for failed sync (or overriding server → iPad sync) increases if the Nextcloud app is not in foreground for a longer period, or the device is just in standby for a day or two. That usually happens for larger documents (because reading them takes longer), but I cannot tell if the document size or the time is the issue.

I do not change the documents on the Nextcloud itself meanwhile. If the document fails to synchronize, the web interface usually shows the latest version of the documents some days ago, often the time it was first uploaded to Nextcloud and first opened for editing. So there was no synchronization going on for some time already (that might be the 3rd party app's fault as well).

In case that's relevant: Additionally to the iPad, I use the sync client for Linux (Debian 64bit) on my Desktop and it's running most of the time.

Also thanks for your work from my side! If I can do anything to help debugging, please let me know.
