I tried to edit for clarity. I also fixed typos in the process.

this looks good for merge to me now. i prefer to have the todo's resolved or in issues but am also fine to merge them as is to make sure we don't stall too long on merging.

Sorry hpk42, I pushed some more changes for my next edit step (and I'm continuing on the rest). I can proceed on a new branch if that helps, or even move the commit on group-join as well, so we can merge this in.

@wouterl I will just merge this PR. You can continue working on the same branch and create a new PR with your next commits. I will also look through the discussion so far and create an issue for what is left open. That way we can finish the first step, move on and track what has not been resolved yet.
