1251 / #1743 aimed for sidebar filtering to include all node/branch attrs, but ultimately settled on all non-continuous attributes as these interfaced nicely with the dropdown list UI. We don't have any UI designs made (as far as I'm aware) for how this would look for arbitrary filters, although the date slider is an obvious piece of prior art.
