knowledge sharing approach: NFDI Core Ontology #22

Open StroemPhi opened 1 month ago

StroemPhi commented 1 month ago

This issue is associated with the charter epic #4.

What cross-domain knowledge-sharing approach does this issue address?

The NFDIcore ontology aims to be the place that provides common classes and relations for all NFDI consortia, which are currently aligned to BFO, IAO & schema.org. But aligning also with other TLOs and MLOs is anticipated. It is aimed at serving as a base module which is to be extended by domain-specific modules.

Here's the documentation.

What further steps are needed to be taken or discussed by/in our WG regarding this issue?

  1. [ ] Get a presentation from the team about the scope and use casees of nfdicore
  2. [ ] Discuss how this approach could/should be supported by the WG (especially regarding upper- & mid-level alignments and common design patterns)

Thank you @StroemPhi for opening this issue! I will get in touch with you and Sasha to set up a date for a presentation.

Thanks, @Garyhsu1982 for adding this point as a possible next step. However, I think this would be out of scope for our working group and more appropriate for our related WG Cookbooks, Guidance and Best Practice. We should rather only agree on how to use NFDIcore within NFDI and maybe how to help in its development. And the other WG would then provide concrete examples and workshops on how to implement it, right @SArndt-TIB?
