Minor bugs fixed #21

I have fixed a few bugs when running through the tutorial. The real changes are less than what GitHub comparison shows but are important to make the code running for some steps.

Thank you for your suggested changes. They all look good to me, except for the one change to the setup.py file (commit 95f1f1e). I never found this to be necessary, can you elaborate why this is required?
