On review, the entire paragraph could be heavily revised to provide a more up-to-date explanation of nginx's popularity. Linking to Netcraft may still be useful as an external reference to support claims of being the most popular web server, etc. The reference sites are not well known to most audiences. No mention of Docker...
No objection to removing the monthly chore, but we might also take the opportunity to refresh this very old content.
@y82 done: past tense, with a dot at the end=) @lcrilly I'd lie to you if I say I'm any good at writing marketing stuff. "If you don't know about nginx - here is a link to (whatever is hip at the moment)" - is not the best approach, I bet.
Technically the patch looks good. Strategically I would still keep the stat (but not the monthly updates). Agree with @lcrilly 's point about heavy revision - after it the stat could be re-introduced in a better way (it's a totally different task).
While netcraft survey was a useful metric and marketing tool it has lost its value by now. At the same time, tracking changes into the survey is a monthly chore which has little to no use. This pull request drops the survey mention.
Optionally, we can leave a link to netcraft surveys (which is https://www.netcraft.com/resources/?type=blog&search=survey&topic=web-server-survey ) but IMO it makes not sense as well.
