Replace yum with dnf #121

Closed ac000 closed 2 months ago

ac000 commented 2 months ago

yum(8) is deprecated in favour of dnf(8).

dnf replaced yum as the default package manager in Fedora 22.

RHEL 8/9 uses dnf(8) as default.

I think the changes for Amazon Linux 1 (AMI) and 2 are wrong - they still use yum instead of dnf. Same for RHEL 7 and its derivatives.

With that, I'm not sure it's a great idea to change yum to dnf in the places that combine all of those like "building from source" page. I think at least RHEL has a fallback from yum to dnf anyway, does Fedora ship the same symlink or a binary?

RHEL7 is almost EOL'd. I don't even have yum on my Fedora...

AFAIK Amazon Linux 2023 uses dnf but it ain't worth arguing about, I'm sure people know what they should be using anyway, even if copy and pasting won't just work...
