Same issue, but with Samsung Epic running 2.2.1. I get a mA rating when
charging, but 0 when unplugged. No folders in /sys/class/power_supply, only
files (ac, battery, usb).

ac, battery and usb are folders in /sys/class/power_supply.
Try opening them with Astro.

I also have the same issue - mA staya at 0 on HTC Wildfire S Android 2.3.5
whereas i get Charge Percentage and voltage reading.
/sys/class/power_supply/battery folder contains ->
Folders -> device, power & subsystem
Files -> batt_attr_text, batt_current, batt_debug_flag, batt_id, batt_temp,
batt_vol, capacity, charger_control, charging_enabled, charging_source, delta,
full_bat, full_level, health, over_vchg, present, smem_raw, smem_text, status,
technology, type and uevent
