Timeline #9

What

A component to display a linear timeline of events and in our case denote the absence of pension contributions.

Why

Explain why you think this should be added to the BSA Design System

This timeline pattern for our service clearly shows when a user stopped paying into the NHS pension scheme. Visually this linear timeline with the most recent events at the top aim to prompt the user to rejoin the pension scheme if there is still time for them to do so.

A timeline of events is useful for many different services. Case working internal services often need ways to update statuses of claims or applications. These often need reviewing internally and users need a way of tracing the history of the claim or application.

What evidence do you have that it's needed?

Currently none from user testing (user testing has been limited) but the component represents what we are trying to achieve. Internal feedback from people within the business have been positive. Will update and feedback when more research is done.

What evidence do you have that it meets the needs of the users of BSA services?

I think this will meet the needs of users by showing them that they still have time to rejoin the pension scheme. Evidence is from positive internal conversations but user testing to do.

Have you checked that it doesn't already exist in the GOV.UK Design System or BSA Design System?

This pattern does not exist in those systems but DWP have a version which this is derived from. https://dwp-jsa-admin.herokuapp.com The DWP version doesn't include the dashed line modifier.

Anything else

Include links to any examples, research or code to support your proposal, if available.
