I'm indifferent. Can see both pros + cons to this need a wider view?

That said have now added feature to have ability to hide specific events from the homepage upcoming section should this be desired. See Adding and Event section in README.md (basically adding hide_upcoming: true to an event will hide it on the homepage, so this is easily toggleable in the future).
