What

Social platform share link component to share links with others.

Why

This component would allow users to share good content and services with their friends, family and online followings easily.
NHS service would benefit by increasing the uptake and usage of content and services that users can easily share with friends, family and online followings.
Links to share on pages remove an extra step users have to do currently to share with friends, family and online followings. Currently, they would have to copy and paste the page link from a browser to share in a social post or message.

Anything else

GOV.UK services including register to vote include "Share to Twitter" and "Share to Facebook" links.
NHS Start4Life pages have social links on certain pages (such as the ready for solid food page) and site-wide in the footer.

Petition Parliament use social share links for each petition page. Interestingly, there are options for Facebook, email and Twitter on desktop but also Whatsapp on mobile. petition-parliament-desktop petition-parliament-mobile

@deanvipondNHS raised a good point that adding links to social platforms like Facebook and Twitter raises privacy concerns that would need fully investigating. For example, can and what data gets passed through to services if these social share links are used?

Start4Life use social links in the footer on all pages which link to Start4Life social accounts/profiles.

On many pages, such as the ready or not page, there are also social share links for that specific page to Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter and Whatsapp. Mandy Whitty from the campaigns team said "we found from user testing parents often wanted to share our content with friends and family so we added whatsapp".
