We sometimes get complaints from people with a particularly severe form of a condition who do not feel that "for most people symptoms are mild " or "it often goes away on its own" reflects their experience.
On the NHS website, our pages about vomiting in pregnancy and severe vomiting in pregnancy do say “often known as” or “sometimes called morning sickness”.
Comment on NHS.UK Slack: You could perhaps add in brackets “(also called nausea and vomiting in pregnancy, NVP)” which is the alternative term many obstetricians, research papers, BUMPS and hyperemisis gravidarum support websites add after using the term “morning sickness”.
Another suggestion: Some sort of disclaimer along the lines of 'although commonly called morning sickness, the condition is actually known as nausea and vomiting in pregnancy as the symptoms can occur at any time.'. To retain our SEO.
Feedback to the NHS website:
"I would like to enquire about how to start proceedings for a formal change to the terminology 'morning sickness' during pregnancy. I do not feel it is accurate and downplays the severity of the symptoms which many women suffer. Every woman I have spoken to reports their sickness and nausea to be all encompassing, for months. I believe the term 'morning sickness' is out of date and needs to be reviewed."
