Designing for children/young adults #457

Hello!

I am doing some work for a kids section of an NHS Trust site. There aren't a lot of guidelines for designing for children in the Design System so was wondering if anyone had any examples of previous work? It’s specifically an area of the site that would aim to give an introduction to the trust and the things they would expect, so would be aimed for kids themselves.

If anyone has any previous projects, research or mockups they would be much appreciated! 🙌

Current research:

Just adding my brief research below so that if someone is looking for stuff like this in the future they see my stuff as well!

Requirements:

Touchscreen and mobile support Distinction in age groups — young (3–5), mid-range (6–8), and older (9–12) children

Design:

Larger font size, language tailored to lowest targeted age group Bigger buttons and fewer content boxes on the page Bright colours, images, characters that explain things Text only footers for adults to press if required (mostly ignored by children)

Behaviour:

Like to try many options Short attention span Mine-sweeping the screen Examples and metaphors key for explaining concepts Minimal text entry

Interested in this - and also, how we write content for this younger age group (or does another ticket exist for that @sarawilcox ?)
