We sometimes have questions about the use of "partner" or "spouse". Partner is more inclusive and may be easier to understand than "spouse".

The proxy team found that a couple of users questioned the use of "partner" on its own, mentioning wanting to see "husband" or "wife". The team opted for "partner, wife or husband". No one has questioned this.
I would understand spouse to mean husband/wife very specifically.
Partner does sound more inclusive, however it doesn't mean that you're married to them.
