Give a definiton with some descriptive content regarding template patterns.

The changes aren't quite what I asked for, and I think improvements could still be made for clarity. In addition, this is not the place to add your CONTRIBUTING.md document (it should be in your RRJ). I won't merge this PR for those two reasons. The record of your work will remain in the closed PR, however.
