Crashes on everything #1030

I just setup a brand new machine with 2 cards. one rx 480 and one rx 580 on Windows 10 pro 64 bit. Downloaded the latest miner and tried to benchmark the cards.

It crashed my computer (blue screened) every time I tried to benchmark.

I tried installing the latest drivers, .net 4.6, and motherboard drivers. Windows is activated as well.

At first it was crashing on everything. Then it was crashing on sgminer ones and cgminer ones worked. Now after leaving it benchmark only cgminer ones while I slept the computer froze and had to be force shutdown.

I have my normal computer that had an old ver of nicehash that worked fine. Tried copying the old ver over to the new computer, but it also has the same problem.

When I used a gtx 750 TI and an RX 480 (no riser cards) it worked fine. But as soon as 2 AMD cards were used in the new computer (with riser cards) everything crashed.

What can I do to fix this?

@jeremys18 take a look at the AMD Drivers Wiki. The crashes are probably related to drivers.

Thanks. I'll try with the 16.11.5 (rx 480 and 580 are considered new, right?) and see if that fixes it.

Well that didn't work well.

Those drivers only know about the 480 but knew nothing about the 580. NiceHash couldn't detect the 580 since windows said there were no drivers installed for it (windows basic video driver was used).

I tried to just update the drivers for the rx 580 but when windows installed the drivers for the 580 it also updated the drivers for the 480 to the later ver the 580 uses.

I benchmarked again and it's back to blue screen of death.

Is it impossable to have 2 cards that aren't the exact same thing?

Ok. So after fighting with this for 2 days now I gave up and went into debug mode.

I enabled just the 480 and benchmarked it. Surprisingly it worked that time. Everything passed. Then I disabled the rx480 and enabled the rx 580. Again benchmarked. the first thing listed failed like always but the rest passed this time.

I don't know why/how but benchmarking 1 card at a time and starting with the 480 allowed the benchmarks to run.

I'm now running NiceHash just fine...... for now.
