Stratum_subscribe timed out #1042

Hi,

I am trying to mine using NiceHashMiner. CPU mining works without a problem, however I haven't been able to GPU mine. When I start the miner it tries to connect to the server and then gives stratum_subscribe timed out error followed by a remark that it will try again after 30 seconds. Then it gives the same error again and closes the command window and opens it again, with the same results.

I assume I have a connection problem with the server. I have tried to ping the EU server and it works as expected (and I get the same results if I try with other servers). I don't think I am banned because I haven't mined before (unless there is a geographic ban or something similar). I have Avast and Malwarebytes, which normally tried to block the software but I have put Nicehash in the exceptions so they are not messing with it now. I suspected it might be a problem with Windows firewall, but the same thing happens if I turn off the firewall (my modem has also a firewall but the same thing still happens if I turn it off).

I don't see any other possibilities. Do you have any idea what is happening?

(By the way, I am using a relatively older GPU (Nvidia GTX 680) which has 2 GB of ram. Could this be a problem?)

I too am in this same boat...except 1)brand new to mining and 2) i'm running an NVidia GTX970 using a driver version 376.53 (i've also tried the most current driver, too). i'm on Windows 10 (64bit), Firewall & Microsofts real-time security have been both off and on...with Malware-bytes turned off (as well as the folder for NHM added to the exclusion list). i've pinged all of the servers successfully with the USA - San Jose having the best average at 71ms. I'm not sure what else to try either.

appreciate your time and response.

Same problem with my GTX 1070. No firewall on, no antivirus.

Edit: Finally figured out my issue! I have an Asus router and needed to turn off the "Vulnerability Protection" option under "AI Protection" in the router settings

Thanks @theshortcircuit , I have been battling this for months, having to mine over VPN all the time. This is a good short term fix, but how can we have vulnerability protection enabled and still mine?

KarlssonH3 commented 7 years ago

Is there a possibility to bypass this somehow without disabling "Vulnerability Protection" @theshortcircuit ?

I have an Asus router too (RT-AC56U), and turning off Malicious Sites Blocking and Vulnerability Protection under AiProtection worked me as well!

Thank you for finding this solution! :)

Just disabling Vulnerability Protection resolved for me. Wonder what the real issue is and if there is a way to white list it, without disabling all protection.

borzaka commented 6 years ago

Many 3rd party antivirus, firewall and even router blocks mining programs, and possible related ports.

My ASUS router (RT-AC56U) updates from Trend Micro's database: Trend Micro: Enterprise Cyber Security Solutions

Just turn off 2 way IPS. Leave everything else on.
