Hi @dfalster @richfitz,

I think this is all a fantastic idea, but I am just wondering if we should switch to discussing meeting logistics. Are we thinking of a one-off full day meeting? Or something that could be on-going as a monthly thing with two or three talks per meeting?

I'm worried that 15 or so different "advanced" topics might be more that my poor brain can absorb in one day. The other issue is if we pick any particular day, only a subset of people will be able to come anyway and we might miss out on some cool stuff.

What do you think?

Good questions. Format has not yet been decided. My approach was to first get people to indicate potential topics, then once we have a rough list of potential topics and likely interest, think about format. I think we can now say interest is moderately high, enough to sustain either a semi-regular meeting or a single symposium. With the regular option, I think we should go for something more than 1 hr meeting, as it takes a lot of effort to get people in the same room.

Some options

Time: whatever the length, aim to end at 5pm, followed by trip to pub for those who are interested.

My preference is for 2-3hrs every 3 months.
