Today I saw someone ask for a good PHP Mode for Emacs and they were directed to the version in Marmalade. I have seen this enough times that I am bumping this because, as it is, Marmalade has a version of php-mode.el
that is missing five years of fixes and improvements. Please do something about this.
Edit: Better yet, tell me what I can do to help address this problem. I am hardly the only developer to raise an issue here about outdated packages. And that is indicative (to me) of a flaw in how the package ownership and submission problem in Marmalade works to begin with. I would be glad to help fix that, so just point me in the right direction.
PHP mode is a major mode for editing PHP 3 and 4 source code.
says it all...
Ok. I'll try and fix this tonight by making you the owner ejmr.
And yes, marmalade ownership is totally broken. And yes, I am trying to fix it. And no, there isn't really anything you can do... the way it works is just fscked. I am replacing it. Been saying it will be done soon for ages... but it will. Very nearly there.
Thank you. I've tried different ways recently to contact you, like over Twitter, but i hope it didn't come across as some angry witch hunt or anything. If there's anything I can do to help fix Marmalade's ownership process and anything else then please let me know, as I'd be happy to help.
Yes. I saw your tweet. I'll deal with it. Sorry it's a mess.
I still cannot update PHP Mode, but I just wanted to say there is no rush. I'm grateful that you're working on the issue and I do not want to seem like a nuisance. I would like to be able to update it soon but I certainly do not need to be able to do it right now. And wanted to say thanks again.
The version of php-mode available at http://marmalade-repo.org/packages/php-mode is outdated, and the fork at https://github.com/ejmr/php-mode has many updates. I attempted to upload the newer version but was rejected because I "was not the owner." I took that to mean that only one version of a package can be in the Marmalade repo at time. If that is the case, I please ask that you consider updating the version of php-mode available in Marmalade. My account name on Marmalade is
ejmr
by the way, if you need to know for any reason.
