There are two versions of PhysX usable with O3DE currently, PhysX 4 and PhysX 5. PhysX5 is as of writing not at feature parity with PhysX4. However, PhysX4 includes prebuilt binaries in its repository which seem to be needed (?) to build. PhysX5 also uses a tool called "packman" (no relation to Arch Linux) to download certain binaries from a server where they are hosted, similar to how O3DE's custom package manager works.

https://github.com/o3de/PhysX there is also an O3DE fork of PhysX which is maintained here, which may mitigate some of these problems.
