So can unlocked 1.02 users upgrade to 1.1.1 now and is there a step by step to do that #3

So currently my phone is 1.02 with unlocked baseband
Is there a way to safely upgrade to 1.1.1 features without bricking the 
phone and is it going to be automated someday?
Or are we basically stuck on 1.02 forever?

yes you can but you will have to buy ipsf, this is what i did.  i had 1.0.2 
anysim
unlocked with correct imei. first go to iphonegoboom.com to the virginizing 
baseband
and do that(i used mobileterminal on my phone). after that reboot the phone.you 
will
then get not valid sim and the imei number will be screwed so then shutdown the 
phone
and take out the sim and turn on the phone. your imei will be the original, then
insert your sim and run ipsf. after ipsf runs it will say unlock succesful( my 
at&t
and t-mobile work fine) i also have the patched lockdownd file on there. then 
you can
successfully update to 1.1.1 without bricking. it worked for me. if any1 else 
tries
this post your results. i used freeit4less.com to buy my license this morning 
and got
a e-mail 27 minutes later saying i could use ipsf. hope this helps   not to 
mention
1.1.1 will be unlocked too!!!

I had anySIM unlocked working iPhone in 1.0.2 FW version. I followed the 
Andreas 
tutorial and it worked like a charm <http://andreas.louca.org/2007/09/30/iphone-

Since I have a valid AT&T contract, I upgraded it to 1.1.1 and activated it 
with 
iTunes. Everything is working fine. I have not jailbreaked it yet. 

I wonder, whether it is possible to jailbreak it later? I am waiting for some 
simplified jailbreak solution for windows.

I used a tutorial probably just like the rest of you. I disabled comm., 
reflashed 
using bbupdater and the 2 other revirginizing files "*.eep & *.fls". Renabled 
Comm., 
rebooted Without Sim in, and then Ran IPSF to repair Baseband. Then upgraded to 
1.1.1 and all is well. Had to run Restore in iTunes to Get YouTube working, as 
I 
have an AT&T activated iPhone Sim.
