Its tricky. We've essentially got a primary classification by purpose (Transport, Bomber etc). But, the distinctions between certain types is not clear - Shuttle, Transport and Freighter all seem to have the same purposes but are treated very differently in Galaxy.
Many ships have multiple designations, eg: https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Consular-class_space_cruiser is a frigate and a light cruiser
Classification is too arbitrary and more cohesive evidence would be needed to make the distinctions.
We shouldn't have hover tank and tank as classes.
We need better distinctions - perhaps TerrestrialVehicle vs Atmospheric vs SpaceVehicle? But some can do all.
Is a snowspeeder a ship? Its a repulsorcraft - its not even represented as a T-47! https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/T-47_airspeeder
