Front Row will not play any Netflix movies #156

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
Installed Understudy, tried a bunch of different Netflix instant queue movies,
not one of them
will play. I get a screen that says "this movie is not available."

What is the expected output or result?

What do you see instead?

doesn't work with Snow Leopard. Installed Understudy, tried a bunch of
different Netflix instant queue movies, not one of them
will play. Mine Closes Front Row and Nada.

I am running 10.6.4

Understudy doesn't report anything along the lines of "this movie is
unavailable" so I suspect the issue is with Netflix. Are you able to access
Netflix movies normally and are you logged into Netflix in Safari?

I have the same problem and the movies are playing in Safari.

The problem does indeed exist on my machine running 10.6.4 with the latest
release of safari. The "this movie is unavailable" is on videos that are
clearly available from Netflix.

I have experienced this issue when trying to connect to Netflicks. In my
situation I believe it is an issue surrounding the redirection that occurs when
you visit netflicks.com from Canada. The web browser automatically redirects
you to netflicks.ca. I know that this would be difficult to test from the
United States but I also suspect that might be a simple fix. I'm willing to
test it. Youtube works perfectly on the same computer via understudy and front
row.

I have been able to get netflix to work sorta.

1) Make sure silverlight and safari are up-to-date, all popups, warning
messages, and updates dont display when launching via FrontRow. If you get
booted it is most-likely because safari is poping up a message or silverlight
is trying to update.

2) Make sure you are signed in Safari and you save your netflix password

But it still disconnects or gets very slow. The slow, choppiness is EXTREMELY
annoying. Running netflix through the browser for several movies works fine,
the slowness only happens when running netflix through this addon.

What steps will reproduce the problem?

From time to time, when entering into my Netflix Saved Queue, the list of
movies will show, as well as the episode or movie information, but the Preview
Icon of the material will be absent. It is under this condition that the
problem will occur. I am using Firefox 3.6.13 and am logged in to Netflix at
the time. It is unknown exactly why the preview icons disappear, but it seems
to happen semi-randomly. I am running Mac OS X 10.5.8 and Understudy 0.8.3.

What is the expected output or result?

When I click on the movie I expect it to log on to the service and start
playing.

What do you see instead?

Instead of playing, a grey screen comes up from Netflix stating "our apologies
the movie you requested is not available at this time".

I do not have a crash report connected to this. However, it does seem to point
to some unstable condition that Understudy is getting into. I find that when it
is occurring, even completely exiting and re-entering Front Row doesn't seem to
clear it. However, if I back out of Front Row and force quit the Front Row
process in Activity Monitor, then relaunch Front Row and go back to Understudy
that the condition seems to clear. It is almost as if the Netflix
authentication (permissions) are lost, and that when the viewer is lost,
authentication fails, but there is no way to pass that information back through
to Understudy. Not sure of that, but it's one potential possibility.
