Research Ethnographic Study Methods

Ethnography, simply stated, is the study of people in their own environment through the use of methods such as participant observation and face-to-face interviewing.

The goal is to figure out how different people see the same things differently or the same.

Shorter term studies are normal and usually perform some "library" pre studies to familiarize the researcher with the area and/or people.

This seems to align almost perfectly with the 1 year road trip. It's about "thick descriptions", not statistical quantities. Which will provide (maybe skewed) but a deeper understanding of people fully engrossed in the different areas

Ethnographic studies attempt to be replicatable, however with the nature of time and technology, the results won't be replicatable, the same meetings may be replicated in the future.

Technological Ethnographic Study (doesn't exist yet, but that's what I'm doing)

• Determine people's appetite for tech
• Where are their boundaries (not willing to add/use tech)
• What are their current problems?
• Provide solutions (abstract and practical)
• Share knowledge on how to understand tech.
