Offline Voice Recognition #305

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
1. As per my research, Android Offline voice recognition(with pre-installed
   language pack) is available starting 4.1 and Glass runs on 4.0.4.

2. Speech Recognizer doesnt seems to be working in Glass. Compilation is
   succesful but doesnt yield any results.
   Ex:
mSpeechRecognizerIntent  = SpeechRecognizer.createSpeechRecognizer(this);
mSpeechRecognizerIntent  = new
                           Intent(RecognizerIntent.ACTION_RECOGNIZE_SPEECH);

My plan is to build a Glassware purely voice based and without network
connectivity.

Hello,

Thanks for the feature request! However, as the Glass platform is built on top
of the Android platform, this seems more of a product feature than a platform
feature:

Keeping this bug alive but setting it as "RevisitLater" when this is fully
supported in Android.

Best,
Alain

Hi Alain,

Thanks for your response. Is it not possible to include a language pack like
ones available from android 4.1 to detect voice even without wifi(complete
offline) ? May be include the language pack in any of your glass
updates/releases sooner?

Hi,

Looking for a similar feature on google glass. Offline voice recognition
support makes glass great for native app development. Please keep us posted on
any movement in this direction.

Thanks,
Prasu.

I am interested in offline speech recognition as well - since connectivity
drains battery on glass!

There are a large number of use cases where offline voice recognition would be
extremely useful.

For example, on farms, ranches, and construction sites the hands-free nature of
glass is very useful for scouting or taking notes (in combination with location
data), however reliable data connections are rare in most cases.

I do hope that this is revisited sooner rather than later.

Hi, is there any update for this missing product feature?

I'd need my demo glassware to listen for a restricted set of words, without the
bond of an Internet connection.

Thanks

Can i ask what prevents Android folks to not have offline voice support? Is it
something technical or non-technical?
