Thanks for your suggestion.
No, this feature is not so hard to implement but... it requires an internet connection to work 😉.
Since the app is available outside "official" channels (Google Play), people could not like it be able to connect to internet; that's why the app doesn't actually require Android Internet access permission (android.permission.INTERNET
).
Being "isolated", your data can't be shared outside your phone.
I appreciate you trust me and my work, but I also understand who like to stay on the "safe side".
While I decide if I should change my mind about internet access (maybe with a public "poll"), I'd like to share some workarounds to be used meanwhile:
Monitoring github project is need to know if a new version is released.
The easiest way to be notified when a new release is available is Github watch feature. On the main project page click on the "Watch" badge, then select "Custom" and finally select "Releases". You'll receive an email each time a new release is published.
"Register" app in f-droid repo.
The app is not available on F-droid main repo, but you can add IzziOnDroid F-Droid Repo
additional repository, by IzziSoft.
See here for details: #10
Hope those suggestion could help...
Thanks for this app. I wish you well and an especially long life.
Thanks, same to you 👋
Oh, didn't know about this internet access permission.
Thanks for explain. I understand logic and I think you are right : app with data like calls should stay local, it looks stupid to enable internet access only for auto update.
Didn't find the issue about IzzyOnDroid : I confirm BCR-GUI is on this repo. I think I will use it.
Thank you for your reply and guide. I greatly appreciate.
Hi, just a suggestion. Don't know if already discussed, or if it's too much complex.
Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe. Monitoring github project is need to know if a new version is released.
Describe the solution you'd like A pop-up advertisement when app launched "hey, there is a new version, go to github blabla…" Or, in settings, "check version" -> "you're up to date" or "there is a new version available".
Describe alternatives you've considered "Register" app in f-droid repo.
Additional context I'm not dev, but will be a pleasure if I can help.
Thanks for this app. I wish you well and an especially long life.
