Ejectify automatically unmounts external volumes when your Mac starts sleeping, and mounts them again after it wakes up.

Time Machine volume not automatically remounting #49

I have an external drive connecting via a dock to my M1 MacBook Pro 14. The external drive has two volumes (data volume and Time Machine volume). I have my Ejectify set to unmount when my screen is locked. Now, when I lock my screen manually using the keyboard shortcut and then later login again both volumes get remounted. However, if I just leave my desk and the screen locks automatically after a certain time the data volume gets remounted but not the Time Machine volume. I have to manually disconnect the dock and reconnect again.

Is the Time Machine volume encrypted?

Also, could you use the Console app to see if any warnings or errors are popping up that might indicate why Ejectify isn't able to mount the volume? Specifically look for a message starting with Dissenter status, which includes the result of the mounting process.

Dito, I have a SSD with two volumes (encrypted Time Machine and encrypted files). Only one of volumes remounts after going to sleep, never both.

Did not find any errors in the console app. It unmounts successfully and never tries to mount again.

T-Tonic commented 1 year ago

My Time Machine volume is encrypted the files volume is not. I also can't find anything in the console app but I find it difficult to consistently reproduce this.

nielsmouthaan commented 1 year ago

So for both of you the encrypted volume isn't remounting?

funkekaiser commented 1 year ago

Both of mine are encrypted and it is 50/50 which one gets mounted.

T-Tonic commented 1 year ago

My unencrypted files volume always remounts. The encrypted Time Machine does not seem to remount when I leave the Mac in sleep for a while. If I wake it immediately it usually gets remounted as well.

nielsmouthaan commented 1 year ago

It's a pity there isn't more information in the Console app on why remounting fails. Anyway, it's clear it's related to encrypted volumes so when I have time I'll look into it.

I have almost the same issue. External disk successfully unmounts (just when "Screen is locked" is set; other options don't work btw), but it doesn't remount on waking ("Mount after delay" is set). Even if I wake it up immediately. The disk is formatted in APFS Encrypted. No logs in Console App.

UPD: See the issue https://github.com/nielsmouthaan/ejectify-macos/issues/34, seems like it's related, so my message is just FYI :)

Same issue for me. My encrypted TM backup never remounts. However, the first couple days after the first TM backup finished everything worked 🤷‍♂️

Same here, Macbook Pro M2 and external HDD with encrypted Time Machine plugged to a Dell screen. Unmount works fine, remount never happens.

Same here. Two volumes (Data & TM - encrypted) and TM not remounting. Sonoma 14.5 (23F79), MBA M1.
