I am experiencing the same issue. Version: Nightingale 1.12.1, Build 2454 (20140112193356). OS X 10.10.3
Does is happen if you use a recent version compiled from source?
I can't compile from source, I get an unsupported architecture error. Building on Mac OS X 10.10.3 on a macbook pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013)
I can confirm this issue. Would you need another screenshot? (I can't compile Nightingale either due to lack of experience)
Could this be related to this bug ? https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=641288 Can you test it ?
Hi, no it's not related - I get this square no matter what. No preferences involved.
Looks like this isn't just a Nightingale problem: https://community.zimbra.com/desktop/f/1899/t/1138891 https://discussions.apple.com/message/27399656#27399656
Here is the bug report for the same issue for Zimbra Desktop: https://bugzilla.zimbra.com/show_bug.cgi?id=99101
Apparently the problem for Zimbra is related to the Prism framework they use, which is an old discontinued XULRunner-based browser that they are moving away from. Since Nightingale is currently using an old XULRunner version, and I haven't seen this issue reported for Firefox or Thunderbird, I'm guessing it will go away when we update to a more modern XULRunner.
So unless Apple fixes this in a future software update, #207 and #216 are the two big issues that need to be solved first.
I have this issue also, it just started one day and will not go away. It is super annoying.
Appears on the built-in display any time I disconnect an external display. Only a restart will make it go away. Ditto, "super annoying".
I had this issue as well with the same Nightingale build number mentioned in the original post on Mavericks when ever I viewed the metadata within NG. This problem went away for me when I updated my OS to El Capitan, didn't have to reinstall the app either.
HI didn't notice it up to now, but I can confirm that with El Capitan this issue has gone away
Hey guys, another issue (sorry!). I've noticed with the latest public release (Version: Nightingale 1.12.1, Build 2454 (20140112193356)) when I disconnect one of my external displays (HDMI) then reconnect, a strange white square appears on that monitor and won't budge unless I restart nightingale.
Here is a screenshot:
