Although this script was originally developed to make it easy to translate
pages that are written in multiple languages, it has become increasingly
apparent that many users are instead utilising it for sites written in a single
language (e.g. English)...
---
The main advantage of this script in comparison with the standard translation
tools provided by Google is that it can offer more flexibility.
The main drawback is that it is more complex to implement on a website.
This website aims to overcome this limitation on single-language websites,
whilst retaining the existing flexibility. It will of course be possible to
continue using on multi-language websites without any alterations.
---
How this feature will work:
If the webmaster specifies that the site is written in just one language, the
script will automatically create some default settings that will enable
translation, with no further configuration.
It will continue to be possible to override these defaults by specifying
alternatives for specific element class names / IDs - e.g. to indicate regions
where the original source language should be shown at the bottom.
If language auto-detection is enabled on a single-language website, the user
will also no longer be prompted to translate the page if their browser/OS is
set to the current site language.
