Need a way to gradually adopt better #53

At the moment, the better suggestions take up a large amount of real estate on the screen. This makes regular surfing/browsing hard. There is a close button and I can get rid of the better popup. When I'm on a new page my first intention is to see the content of the page and so I tend to hit this close button. When I'm doing something like an intense session of google searches, I'd have to repeatedly close the popup. So, the option in front of me would be to press "do not show suggestions for this URL".

But, it is just that I don't have the time to look at suggestions at this moment. I'm definitely interested in the suggestions, but just not now. Not straightaway. Maybe tomorrow. Maybe some other day.

So, I think there are two things that might be helpful:

1) "Do not show suggestions for this URL for the next n hours" 2) A smaller popup in the corner of the screen which doesn't hide the content of the page, but can be expanded to see the actual suggestions.

This is a great suggestion. I’ve been facing the same problem.

2 sounds like a good idea to me! We can also add suggestions in the

toolbar extenstion popup, but that would be considerable more work!

I think there are two situations:

  1. When I'm about to adopt a bad product (eg: I'm on the signup or purchase or download page)
  2. I have already adopted a bad product and now I'm consuming it online (for eg: inside Gmail)

I am more likely to be in the exploratory mode (more receptive to alternatives) in the first case than the second. In the second case, my switching cost is much higher, and the suggestions feel more distracting.

Perhaps the suggestions JSON itself can drive what kind of pop-up to show. This will allow us to handle (1) and (2) differently.

Showing suggestion in the extension pop-up is something that seems very desirable. But can be taken up as an enhancement.

From a UX point-of-view, we can also take the grammarly route where it shows a small icon on the bottom right of the screen. It can be the Better logo along with a small count of alternatives and clicking on it and bring up the current UI
