the new-ish phantom API looks powerful, see https://www.sublimetext.com/docs/3/api_reference.html#sublime.Phantom it enables inserting html (including text, images etc) in sublime regions. eg applications:

on hover, show html snippet containing all resolved symbols (eg: foo => strutils.foo) right below the symbol
show errors (lint suggestions...) inline with the code
show live git diff in a file integrated with the buffer
