search in document - white text on white background? #573

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.load a document
2.open search
3.type in search text

What is the expected output?
Visible text in search field

What do you see instead?
White text on white background (the search actually works fine) it's only 
impossible to see the typed text in search field

What version of the product are you using?
2.02

On what operating system?
Android 4.2

What device are you using?
Nook hd+

Please provide any additional information below.
It doesn't seem to be a nook or android problem, the problem is not present in 
other apps or in legacy versions of ebookdroid. See attached screenshot. Thanks

Hmm. Does your nook uses standard android theme or some vendor specific?

In 2.0.2 we forced using standard halo theme that should be on any device. It 
seems that nook firmware does not has it.

Here is screehshot from nexus 10.

We will think how to solve this issue.

Mmm.. I think it's the standard theme (I don't even know how to change a 
theme..) but I have recently rooted my nook so it might be that in the process 
something has been changed.. let me check that the theme is ok and I'll come 
back to you..

Not much luck, unfortunately.. see screen shot 1 below. To be honest, also the 
setting screen is not much better (screenshot 2) with greyed-out descriptions 
invisible. For a comparison, ss3 is from the nook settings screen. Thanks

From screenshots I can see that your nook firmware do not have standard android 
color theme (or seriously changed it). Own nook's settings apparently uses some 
other theme.

I do not see solution for this color problem. Standard theme should be on the 
device.

Is your firmware stock or some custom? If it is custom I think you should ask 
author not to remove standard theme/put it back.

I have the CWM fimware from here 
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2062613. After a bit of 
reading it seems some other people have the white-on-white problem on that 
firmware, so it's not your "fault"..  I will revert to the original nook 
firmware and let you know if that solves/doesn't solve the problem. Thanks again

ok, I reverted to the stock firmware (still based on Android 4.2). No change in 
color theme, no improvement on the problem. To make sure I have the standard 
(for the Nook hd+) color scheme, I checked for some screenshots on internet. It 
seems I have pretty much the correct one..
First screenshot is from here

my nook in a similar situation, the third from modaco.
Any idea? If you want, I can send you the original framework-res.apk used in 
the original firmware..

Version in this issue (3128) does not rely on any specific theme. It uses all 
the standard controls firmware can provide.

Honestly rigth now I can not invent anything to improve your situation.

Maybe in some next version we will include full color theme, so on all devices 
ourapplication will look the same. But I do not like this idea - it can greatly 
increase apk size with no benefit on most devices.

I checked old version 1.6.6, and that version does not have the problem (but 
has incorrect rendering of PDF). I find it a bit strange the fact that you say 
the new version only uses default theme and still there is this problem (system 
menus/screens are ok and they by definition only use the default system 
resources..).
Are you aware of any tool to "look into" the framework-res.apk and check the 
color scheme?

I just found another interesting thing.. if I search in the library for a book 
title everything works fine. See attached screenshot.
