Menu items in App Inventor #2132

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
I'd like to add Menu items so if the user clicks the Menu at the
bottom of the phone my app presents options.

Request you to provide this feature at the earliest.

Unfortunately we've had to revert the changes in this feature and we are back
in design stage. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Thanks!

Better a good feature than one that is almost there :-)

Where are your design documents? I am holding off poking on menus in the ai4a
servers.

I'm also holding off on adding the date and the time pickers into the ai4a
servers. We can currently get them using Activity Starter and an android app
(eg https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jsoft.android.as)

I heard those components would be added soon???

Some of us can help.

Gary

Hi Gary,

I don't know if there are any design documents per se; each developer use their
own methods, and I am not personally involved in this particular issue, but any
help is more than welcome. You have a fork, feel free to send pull requests;
will be much appreciated!

thanks!

Howdy

I will get the changes to support Windows in and send a pull request.

I would like to hear what the plan is for menu items (and all other changes)

Is there a group or ? where developers are talking now days? The Google group
is inactive (other than spam)

I think this would be a very valuable feature to add to AppInventor.

Could we have an update on the menu solution - 11 months since we were told it
was back at the design phase. I'd really like to see this implemented. It
really would be most useful - instead of having the menu button pressed (either
soft key or hard ware button) and having the message "Stop this application" as
the only entry to be presented :-/
Thanks guys.

Hi there, this issue was marked as noted on April 26th; that means that we are
not working on it at the moment.

We know this is useful but there's only so much we can do. Any contributions
are really welcome; please check the open source site, and if you think you can
help, please do get in touch. http://appinventor.mit.edu/appinventor-sources/

thanks!

I saw that the new ai2companion app has a settings button under the hardware
menu button. does this mean that this is supported in appinventor too? and how
does it work?

Here is a suggestion that would be very helpful, I assume for most of us
interested in a functional menu button for AI2 apps. Instead of only allowing
text in the AboutScreen parameter of a screen, allow this field to be set to a
ListView, ListPicker or Spinner control. With this implementation when the
"About" this application option is selected on the menu the List control
connected to the AboutScreen could display. Events for the control could open
screens for managing settings for the App. This seems like this could be a
relatively easy modification to implement in AI2. Thank you for considering
this. Since App developers have been waiting for some functionality for the
Menu button for a couple of years, please consider this enhancement.

Or implement this kind of functionality for the Application Settings option on
the pop-up menu for the menu button. Of course this would require an new
parameter for all Screens.

For me the easiest solution would be to put a checkbox on the screen designer
which simply enables/disables the menu button, so that there is no reaction at
all if you press it.
I would be happy enough, if there would exist such an option.
