Google TV Running Android & Chrome | TV API Should Be Built In To App Inventor #308

Since Google TV is going to be running on Android and using a light version of
Chrome the App Inventor Team should be on top of adding the Google TV API to
AI.

Google TV is the wave of the future and is coming built into Sony TV's and Sony
BlueRay Players already. On my Sony BlueRay I already can access Netfix,
Youtube, Slacker, Pandora, etc. It is vital that the AI team keep AI on the
cutting edge by including the TV API's as modules or something.

There are some really great tips on designing for Google TV.
Optimization Guide:

FAQ's
http://code.google.com/tv/web/faq.html

Google TV products are scheduled to have access to the Android Market in early
2011. This will totally change the way all advertising is done. Many people I
talk to have no idea of the magnitude of the shakeup this will cause. Anyone
not into AI and GTV will be kicking themselves like the naysayers from when
Google did a public auction of their initial stock offering.

For AI to be successful I see a few important features it must have:

1. Screen size detection - Dynamic
This is already important due to mobile device screen variations.

2. Device detection - Dynamic
There should be the option of having different AI screens depending on the device viewing the app.

3. RSS Reader Integration
Any developer should be able to pull in content from an RSS feed. This will allow AI to package a large portion of the internet content today.

4. Personal Data Encryption
For things like subscriptions, forms and application forms it is essential for AI developers to allow users to keep their personal data safe on the device itself rather than posting it out and saving it externally via TinyWebDB.

3. All Android API's being included in AI

4. All GTV API's being included in AI

5. Embed the web
To call a flash object, such as a video or a game, it should be as easy as pointing to its host url. After that AI should auto conform it to fit device specs on the fly similar to how wordpress.com works now.

6. Android Market Integration
Without integration AI is going to flop. There are so many talented developers betting on AI that it's time to make this happen. If we could publish to the market we could begin testing the public's reaction to our apps and begin using that feedback to make better apps hopefully in time for the full launch of Google TV.

Conclusion
There are 5 billion TV viewers world wide. All TV devices will soon have either
Android or a version of Chrome very soon. It turns the entire internet into
your own personal DVR. Are you kidding! This is awesome. Android market will
have the lions share of personal interaction with the public via their phones,
TV's and other devices like DVD players. Potentially we are talking about
Billions of app views per day!

Hopefully someone somewhere with some pull is listening because AI has the best
chance of being the launching point of great content for Google TV and other
devices. I personally believe strongly in Google products and I hope soon
Google will believe in us. :)

Something for App Inventor design team to consider...that has been on my mind
since the get go, is enabling App Inventor app developers to create games like
Nintendo, X-Box, and PlayStation.

The Android phone could be used, in the same way the Wii controller is. In a
few years time, the majority of video games could be developed in this way.

Why would people buy the newest PlayStation, Nintendo, or X-Box system; if
traditional video game developers and the small time people, are providing
video game content using App Inventor.

This would foster the expansion of Android enabled devices to nearly every
child. Aside, from making App Inventor a great influence on the video game
industry. So many mobile Android enabled devices in the hands of young people,
paves the way for them too be used by educational institutions; can anyone say
bye, bye, textbooks and hello expanded WiFi service?

App Inventor could become the learning platform for the world and one of the
greatest motivators for expanded WiFi service. Young people could receive
education specifically designed for their needs, instead of the static learning
that we already have, which leaves too much room for failure.

Anyway, I'm just saying there is lot's of potential, that "most people" are not
noticing or taking advantage of.

This would be THE reason for me using AI. Specifically, I want to be able to
read/write to the USB port on a Google TV device (eg. Logitech Revue). I can
then write an app to interface to an external device, and control it via the TV.
