fwiw, I found myself here after failing to run nixGL on a rpi4. Since I was successfully able to unblock myself by using the branch from this PR, I can say this fix works for me™.

Since I have the system setup, let me know if there is other validation I can help provide.

I can confirm that this fixed nixGL for me as well on a rpi4.
