[BUG] Seren throws an error when selecting a specific season of one show #939

Open MohnJadden opened 3 months ago

MohnJadden commented 3 months ago

Describe the bug When I click on Season 1 of one show in Seren, it throws an error: "Seren has encountered an error. Check the log for more information." The menu stays where it is . If I select any other season in the show, it shows episodes and plays them normally. No other shows are affected. Clearing the local cache and torrent cache do not fix the issue, nor does reauthorizing myself to my debrid provider and restarting the Windows HTPC on which Seren is running.

I tried adding a torrent for the show to the debrid provider I use, and it caches successfully and plays in other players, but the error still persists in Seren. I even tried buying some time on a different debrid provider and using that instead of the previous one (which has worked fine since I started using it) and the same error persisted.

To Reproduce Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Open Seren -> Search -> TV shows -> Search for "Voyager"
  2. Click "Star Trek: Voyager"
  3. Click Season 1
  4. Receive error

Expected behavior The episodes in season 1 are listed for me to choose, same as other shows/seasons.

Screenshots If applicable, add screenshots to help explain your problem.

Kodi Version (please complete the following information):

Additional context This pastebin contains the error I observed in the logs when I reproduce the issue: https://pastebin.com/PYqX01Un

Have you tried rebuilding your Trakt DB?

Tools > Trakt Sync Tools > Rebuild Database

Call it a strange coincidence, but I have had many constraint failed errors and the majority of them have been caused by episodes of various Star Trek series (e.g., Prodigy, Lower Decks).

I have also noticed an inconsistency in what I'm seeing for S1 in my search results compared to what I'm seeing on the Trakt website, compared to what I'm seeing on TMDB. I've requested Trakt perform a Data Refresh since the show is Locked.

MohnJadden commented 3 months ago

@irbyjm I hadn't configured Trakt before but creating an account, linking it from Seren, and rebuilding the DB as you directed fixed the issue. Thank you so much!

Unfortunately I spoke too soon. After playing one episode, the original error recurs. If I rebuild the Trakt DB as mentioned, I can browse and watch from the season in question but as soon as I back out from the season menu the error recurs.

Why are you using an old version of kodi? v21 is current. Perhaps as you update kodi you could remove Seren, update kodi, reinstall Seren, reauth stuff...it's a lot of work with no guarantees, but if it's not working as you've had it before...

Seren is not under active development (or even maintenance) to the best of my knowledge and understanding. That said, with many people reporting flawless operation still, it may be in your best interest to remove/reinstall.

These two things - kodi (and trakt etc) progression and Seren being left (I didn't say abandoned!) to fend for itself will be Seren's ultimate downfall. But you're always free to fork it and/or take up the slack to keep it alive.

@npmstart-pray I just started using Kodi maybe a few months back so I'm not really a hardcore follower of the scene - I didn't even know that there was a new version, nor did I know that Seren was inactive. Thank you for taking the time to mention those.

If there's an equivalent to Seren that has an easy to use interface, streams as soon as it can (The-Crew seems to always need to download something and even then it just sits at 0% most of the time, even with the same debrid provider or if I cache a torrent myself) I'm more than happy to use it. Seren just came up as one of the recommended applications in most of my research with at least one or more newbie-friendly install guides, and it's been fine for me but I'm happy to branch out.

In the end, I just watched the Season 1 episodes on another device and the issue has not recurred for other seasons.

It'd be bad form to suggest others here- you're better off taking to discord's Addons4kodi server or Reddit for a subreddit by the same name. This place is more for the devs, the folks who write the code, and for them to hash out behind the scenes technicalities.
