Switching to Apodimark could have some benefits, including:

Less complicated dependency management
Rendering to AST, which means we could add build time syntax highlighting support in the future

Issues:

May I suggest SwiftMark which is a wrapper around well proven Commonmark (of Pandoc pedigree)?
