I have been using Elementary OS via MyDearWatson. It works remarkably well for me. I'm grateful for such an excellent, free product. Therefore please do not take the following as sign of ingratitude but rather a hopeful question.
I have installed and customized various applications in Elementary OS. Let’s say that I were to lose my Acer C720 Chromebook. In such a case, I would like to be able to easily restore the applications which I had installed and whose settings I had customized. I imagine I would do so by restoring a backup I had created and stored on a USB drive to a newly purchased Acer C720’s internal SSD.
See, if I were to merely reinstall elementary OS via a generic copy of MyDearWatson I would need to reinstall all of the applications which I have installed on Elementary OS. Then I would either retrieve my customized settings for each application from backup files (which I have not yet created) or fiddle around customizing each particular application all over again from scratch.
