Think CIWS. Small, rapidly firing, turrets which are able to put out a massive volume of short range projectiles to intercept hostile missiles before they impact the ship. They can be mounted on capitol ships or on dedicated anti-missile platforms (either fighters or stationary platforms) as a last-ditch anti-missile defense after the interceptor (countermissile) phase. Maximum range would be less than 1 kilometer, possibly 500 meters, though the effectiveness within the engagement envelope would be extremely high.

*This would go well with a missile range upgrade. **Realistically, missiles should outrange and outperform (raw dmg per shot) ballistic projectile weapons in their engagement evelope at the expense of the ability to negate them.
